DermaSmooth Med Spa About Hair Reduction Treatment

Imagine never shaving, waxing, plucking or applying messy creams again! Sound like a dream? It is now a reality you can enjoy. The removal of undesired hair or epilation has become very important in today's society. Its need is often dictated by fashions but is also basic good grooming. Old methods of epilation such as shaving, waxing and tweezing have been shown to provide only temporary relief from recurring undesired hair. Electrolysis can often be a painful procedure with only temporary results.
Recent advances in hair removal technology now make it possible to permanently reduce unwanted body hair, quickly and easily, with proven long-term results. Imagine . . . it is now possible to conveniently obtain the ease, beauty and confidence of smooth, hair free skin through DermaSmooth's customized laser hair removal treatment program. At DermaSmooth, our goal is to provide the most technologically advanced techniques utilizing only the highest quality, state of the art equipment.
LUMENIS LightSheer
LUMENIS LightSheer
DermaSmooth has chosen to use the LightSheer™ Hair Removal by Lumenis™. The LightSheer™ Diode Laser is considered the industry "gold standard" in achieving permanent hair reduction. The LightSheer laser works on a range of hair colors and all skin types, and has been proven to improve the appearance of razor bumps, benign pigmented lesions, sun damage and superficial leg veins in addition to removing hair. An innovative cooling device on the end of the laser wand smoothes the skin after each pulse of light, ensuring that treatment is nearly pain-free.
The Cycles of Hair Growth
The key to successful hair removal is destroying the entire hair follicle and the germinative cells, while preserving surrounding healthy tissue. Laser hair removal is most effective when the hair is in its active growth phase called the anagen phase; consequently, multiple treatments scheduled several weeks or months apart are typically required to achieve optimal results.
The LightSheer Diode Laser gently removes unwanted hair based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. This refers to the process whereby the characteristics of the light energy including wavelength and pulse duration are optimized to selectively cause thermal injury to the hair follicle without injuring the surrounding tissue. The light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed in the target pigment (melanin) found in the hair shaft. This causes the temperature to reach a sufficiently high level in the hair follicle so that the targeted hair structures are destroyed and regrowth is inhibited.
The LightSheer Diode Laser System, with its unique combination of parameters, penetrates tissue to destroy the germinative cells at the base of the hair follicle and stunt hair regrowth. At the same time, the aggressive cooling provided by the LightSheer's ChillTip™ handpiece minimizes potential collateral epidermal damage caused by light absorption by melanin in the epidermis. The patented ChillTip combined with efficient, reliable, high-power diode technology, makes the family of LightSheer laser the most advanced hair removal system available and the recognized gold standard for hair removal.
Phase One of hair growth - The Active Cycle
ACTIVE GROWTH PHASE
Hair's active growth phase is called anagen. During anagen, the hair contains an abundance of melanin. Hairs in this phase are most affected by light-based treatment.
Phase Two of hair growth - The Regression Phase
REGRESSIVE PHASE
Catagen is the regression phase when the lower part of the hair stops growing but is not shed, and the follicle is reabsorbed.
The Third Cycle - The Resting Phase
RESTING PHASE
The resting phase is called telogen, during which the old hair falls out in preparation for the development of new hair.
